Autonomous power with SFC fuel cartridges

SFC fuel cells are operated as direct methanol fuel cells with the fuel methanol. The methanol is stored in SFC fuel cartridges that have been designed especially for this purpose. Depending on requirements, SFC fuel cartridges are available in different 0.35, 2.5, 5, 10, 28 and 60 litre capacities. If your autonomy needs are higher, up to four fuel cartridges can be connected to one fuel cell using the DuoCartSwitch. High-purity clean methanol is needed to reliably operate the SFC fuel cells. Only when original SFC fuel cartridges are used, can the maximum operating life of the fuel cell be guaranteed. SFC fuel cartridges offer a lot of energy in the smallest space thanks to the high energy density of methanol. As a result, the autonomy of your off-grid applications can be increased many times.

SFC fuel cartridges are available worldwide. SFC has established a comprehensive logistics network for the sale of fuel cartridges. In addition, SFC fuel cartridges can also be transported on pallets via road, sea and air.

Safety-tested

SFC fuel cartridges meet the strictest safety standards and have received UN approval for transportation by sea, road and air. Safety valves ensure that the user is never at risk of coming into contact with their contents. Every filling operation is monitored by SFC’s quality management team.

SFC fuel cartridges are designed for the requirements in tough application areas. The fuel cartridges in the M0.35 size is also available in the Desert version and can also be used in high temperatures up to +55°C.

SFC fuel cartridges offer a lot of energy in the smallest space. With a weight of just 8.4 kg, 10 l of methanol has a capacity of 11.1 kWh energy. To deliver the same amount of energy, around 280 kg of lead-gel batteries would be needed.

Are SFC fuel cartridges approved for transport?

Yes, SFC fuel cartridges are designed for the most stringent safety requirements. Additionally, the fuel cartridges are approved and marked for road, sea and air transport.

What is the energy density of the SFC fuel cartridges?

At just 8.4 kg, a 10-litre SFC fuel cartridge boasts an energy content of 11.1 kWh. To deliver the same amount of energy, around 280 kg of lead-gel batteries would be needed.

On average, how long does one M10 or M28 fuel cartridge last?

One litre corresponds to an energy capacity of 1.1 kWh. With a continuous consumption of 25 W (600 Wh/day) without an additional energy source such as solar power, the following applies:

  • an M10 nearly 3 weeks
  • an M28 over 7 weeks
  • four M28 nearly 30 weeks
Can the fuel cartridge for the SFC JENNY 600S be changed during ongoing operation?

Yes, the fuel cartridge can easily be changed during ongoing operation. The design of the cartridges ensures that the user is never at risk of coming into contact with their contents.

What is the difference between the desert and regular fuel cartridges?

The desert version is available for fuel cartridges M0.35 and M2.5. They contain a water-methanol mixture and are therefore designed for higher temperatures up to + 55°C.

Can several fuel cartridges be connected to one SFC EMILY 3000?

Yes, the DuoCartSwitch is used to connect up to two fuel cartridges with the EMILY 3000. The DuoCartSwitch is available as an additional accessory. It has to be activated before use. You can receive more information in the operating instructions for the DuoCartSwitch or contact us directly.
